The Gold Standard
of SHA-256

Bitcoin Gold (BTGS) is a next-generation PoW Layer-1 blockchain supporting BTG-20 Inscriptions and industrial-grade security.

Official Documentation

Technical Whitepaper v2.1

1. Abstract

Bitcoin Gold (BTGS) represents a paradigm shift in the SHA-256 ecosystem. While maintaining the absolute security of the Bitcoin hashing algorithm, BTGS introduces the **BTG-20 Protocol**, a native inscription layer that allows for the decentralized deployment, minting, and transfer of digital artifacts directly on the Layer-1 blockchain. BTGS is engineered to serve as a high-speed, low-cost alternative for the global research community and decentralized finance advocates.

2. The SHA-256 (D) Algorithm & Security

BTGS utilizes an industrial-grade SHA-256 double-hashing consensus. By leveraging this established algorithm, the network benefits from existing hardware infrastructure while implementing a custom **Dark Gravity Wave (DGW)** difficulty adjustment. This ensures that block times remain stable at approximately 2.5 minutes, preventing large hash-rate spikes from destabilizing the network. Security is further enhanced through **V2 P2P Encryption**, shielding peer-to-peer traffic from surveillance and deep packet inspection.

3. BTG-20: The Inscription Revolution

Inspired by the BRC-20 standard, the **BTG-20 Protocol** utilizes the `OP_RETURN` and Witness data fields to embed JSON-based data into the blockchain. This allows users to create immutable tokens and digital art (Ordinals) without the need for smart contracts. Every BTG-20 asset inherits the full security of the underlying SHA-256 proof-of-work, ensuring that "artifacts" are as permanent as the chain itself.

4. Build & Deployment (Developer Access)

The BTGS Core is open-source (MIT License). Developers can compile the node using the following logic:

git clone https://github.com/BTGSCOINDEV/BTGS.git
cd BTGS && mkdir build && cd build
cmake .. && make -j$(nproc)

5. Electrum Infrastructure

For light-weight integration, BTGS maintains a global network of Electrum servers:

  • electrum.btgscoin.site (Port: 50002 SSL)
  • electrum.bitcoingold.site (Port: 50005 WSS)
